A brief overview of 'Big Fish'

Big Fish is a beautiful, charming, simple, flowing, and very expressive movie. It explores a troubled relationship between a son and his father, despite their love for each other, because the father constantly fabricates stories about events from his past. The son doesn't believe his father, noticing that he tends to exaggerate and add details to his tales, making them very inspiring and ideal, as if written by a professional storyteller. This is what causes him to dislike his father's stories, even though many others love them and him.

Big Fish is full of beautiful and moving moments and characters, and it also transports you to wonderful places. It constantly prompts you to think about your relationship with family, how family members see you, and how you see them. It encourages you to accept the people closest to you with their strengths and flaws, even if their flaws are obvious on the surface.

The movie Big Fish features many symbols and sources of inspiration, encouraging us to reflect on our relationships with everyone—those we see and interact with daily, and others who pass through our lives only briefly. It teaches us a lesson in connecting with people who have different minds and personalities, leaving a lasting impression of confidence and excellence. Therefore, Big Fish is regarded as one of the greatest movies ever.

Belief in your ability and capacity is one of the most crucial keys to success in life. A lack of that belief can lead to constant stumbling, delays in reaching your goals, or even failure. Anyone chasing success must first believe in their future destiny as if they can see it clearly ahead, because that belief motivates them to persist and work hard to make it a reality.

Paths and Choices

Life paths are the routes you take throughout your life, and you walk on them until the end. Some people refer to these paths as fate. Sometimes, we see individuals walking straight on a path, then suddenly changing direction, only to be surprised that their old path could have led to injury or death.

Their decision to change their path is often what saves them, and this is what we call choice. There is no clear explanation for this except divine providence. Therefore, there is no logical reason for your path to change suddenly. Do you agree or disagree with me?

Some people carefully evaluate their paths and choices, then decide which way to go to avoid mistakes, even if it might lead them down the wrong road and expose them to unforeseen outcomes.

The matter isn't determined by a rule; we never truly know our destinies because it's not a science that can be clearly understood or predicted. Instead, we, as humans, try as much as possible to improve our decisions to prevent unexpected events in our lives that weren't considered.

Regarding our destinies, which will certainly come to pass, they are safeguarded by divine providence. Your wrong path might even save you from a worse one, so a person should never complain but rather reflect, observe, and trust in God's mercy for him and his life.

In the movie Big Fishyoung Ed Bloom, played by Ewan McGregor, does several things in his small town that make him stand out among his peers and excel over many. His childhood was also special, full of adventure and strange events that always followed him, as if fate chose him at birth from among thousands to live an unusual life filled with thrilladventure, and strangeness.

Ed Bloom's early life included meeting Karl the Giant, convincing him to leave his small town, and discovering the hidden, ideal city of Spectre. He also visited the circus where he first saw the love of his life, Sandra. He worked there for three years to learn everything about her. Later, he joined the military, undertaking one of the toughest army missions, and met conjoined twins who helped him escape from enemy barracks.

After reconnecting with his wife and lover Sandra, who thought he was dead, he began working as a traveling salesman and found success in the role, constantly moving from place to place. He also met the poet Norther, who later became a bank robber, and unknowingly aided him. Returning to Spectre once again, Ed saved the city and its residents from being lost.

Every choice Ed Bloom made guided him toward his unique destiny, even if some decisions seemed to defy common logic. He was born to fight for a better future, explore new places, and meet new people. His destined life was to be extraordinary, during which he offered everyone he knew help and love.

Ed Bloom neglects his young son Will because of his constant travel for work, creating a deep gap between them that lasts until his son decides to marry. The gap widens as Ed shares exciting stories about his life and adventures, which include some effects and a slightly imaginary plot. These stories become enjoyable for everyone who hears them, except for Will, who sees them as unreal and as his father's way of attracting attention and interest.

Nothing could hold Bloom back in this life; he experienced adventures everywhere he went, unrestricted and fully enjoying it, as it was his unique destiny. The only limit he set was for his wife and lover, Sandra.

Between Reality and Myth

Ed Bloom's stories about his life include a mythical and legendary element that can only be identified by its presence. This applies to any story: it must have a unique character that makes it enjoyable and timeless, while still staying connected to reality.

It also introduces symbols and characters that helped shape Ed Bloom's unique destiny, along with the messages conveyed through these stories, offering us an energizing and abundant force that boosts our challenge, strength, and resolve to succeed in life's struggles.

The most prominent symbol in the film is the large fish mentioned in the title: the one you can never catch or control. It's not because of its size, but because of its constant movement and lack of restriction or stability in one place.

Trying to understand the truth

Will needed to discover the truth about his father and his stories, and it was his last chance—because of his father's serious illness—to hear it from him before he passed away. However, communicating with his father was difficult because his father insisted on the complete truth of his stories, and Will accused him of lying when telling them. As a result, he had to find the truth himself, away from his father.

Will wasn't exactly sure what he hoped to find on this journey. He first visited the city of Spectre and met Jenny, who loved Ed Bloom. She began to tell him the story of his father Ed and his connection to the city, and how he supported and helped restore it. From there, Will started to understand and realize more, especially after his mother told him what happened to his father during the war. The dust nearly cleared from his eyes, gradually revealing the full picture.

As his father's condition worsened and he was taken to the hospital, his understanding of the situation was almost complete. During Ed Bloom's final moments in this world, he asked Will to tell him the story of his death, and Will realized he wanted to tell it in his own style and perspective. So, he began to tell it in the same distinctive way as his father, and he succeeded completely, which brought great relief to his father's eyes before he passed away.

At Ed Bloom's funeral, the beloved big fish known for his stories was presentwith people sharing tales about him. As a result, the legend of Ed Bloom continues to live on and never fade.

Big Fish Messages

Being loved and respected in your city is very hard, and extending that to a large group of people you've met in your life is even more difficult. However, it is a person's attitude that makes this possible, and Ed Bloom's attitude was exceptional with others. His influence on everyone was remarkable, thanks to his idealistic, ambitious, and loving personality, making him a rare individual.

Never give up, regardless of pressures, obstacles, and difficulties, in pursuit of what you want. Nothing comes easily when you desire it; a person must work hard and even fight to reach their dreams and goals, and not remain helpless in front of closed doors.

As you work toward your goals, remember your family because they have an undeniable and inherent right that must not be overlooked. Your children and wife are essential parts of your life, so do not prioritize your pursuits over them.

Stories are a great way to share about ourselves, and it's natural that they include some fictional parts; that's what makes them fun and engaging. Big Fish was one of the most amazing stories I've ever seen, and I have a lot of admiration and appreciation for everything presented through this inspiring story for every human being.
