Origin and Education


Ewan McGregor was born in 1971 in Scotland. His father and mother both taught at Crieff High School, and he has an older brother, Colin, who served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force. He has an actor uncle and an actress aunt. Ewan McGregor attended Morrison Academy, a private school in central Scotland, but left when he was sixteen and worked as a stage assistant at the Perth Playhouse. He then studied drama at Kirkcaldy College before moving on to study drama at the age of eighteen at the Guildhall School of Drama and Music in London.

The start of his artistic career


Ewan McGregor landed his first major role in a British TV series just before graduating from Guildhall School. He then appeared in two more films, followed by another film called Shallow Grave, for which he won an Empire Award. This was his first collaboration with director Danny Boyle. He gained widespread fame for his role as a drug addict in the film Trainspotting in 1996. Afterward, he appeared in several other films until landing a very important role in the Star Wars prequel trilogyreleased between 1999 and 2005.


The three parts were *The Phantom Menace**Attack of the Clones*, and *Revenge of the Sith*, and he played the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Jedi master.


Ewan McGregor discussed the challenges of filming scenes for the Star Wars prequel trilogy, as they were shot in front of green screens, making the dialogue difficult, even though his performance was praised by many.


In 2001, Ewan McGregor delivered a stunning performance in the film Moulin Rouge, earning his first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. He also starred in other leading roles alongside Hollywood stars, played a beautiful part in the wonderful film Big Fish, and provided voice work in two successful animated movies.


Ewan McGregor has played many distinctive roles and portrayed multiple characters in numerous series and films, excelling greatly in each. He has also received several awards, including the Outstanding Achievement Award in Acting at the Seattle International Film Festival in 2011, and he won his second Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Film. In 2012, he served as a member of the main jury at the Cannes Film Festival and became the youngest person to receive the Donostia Award for Lifetime Achievement.


In 2013, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his significant contributions to charity and drama. He also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Film or Miniseries for the third time in 2017 for his role in the third season of the series Fargo, where he played Halston, the famous fashion designer, and he received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.


Ewan McGregor has performed in several plays, winning the LastMinute.com Award in 2005, and was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical in 2007.


McGregor was ranked 36th on Empire magazine's 1997 list of the 100 Greatest Movie Stars of All Time, was named the fourth most influential person in British culture, and was considered by IndieWire to be one of the best actors never to receive an Oscar nomination.



















Charity



Ewan McGregor has been involved in UNICEF campaigns in the UK since 2004 and has contributed to some charitable work for UNICEF with Charlie Boorman in Africa. He also contributed to the American charity Go in 2009 and 2010, as well as to the Children's Charity in Scotland. Additionally, he has been involved in many other charitable activities, showcasing his dedication as a great actor.






















Personal Life


Ewan McGregor was married twice, first to a French Jewish production designer named Eve Mavrakis, with whom he had four daughters. Two of the daughters were adopted, and he also took in a homeless child from the streets. He divorced Eve in 2018, at which point he was dating the American actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead. They married in 2022 and already had a son named Laurie.


Ewan McGregor was more inclined toward the Jewish religion because of his wife Eve and how she raised her children in this faith. Although he was a Christian, he was very distant from his original religion.


Ewan McGregor supports the English football team Manchester City and was a heavy drinker until he decided to stop in 2000 due to his declining health. He also became a naturalized American citizen in 2016. He was very upset about Britain's exit from the European Union and therefore supported Scotland's independence from England because of that.
