origin

Freida McFadden was born in New York City in 1980 to doctors. She has one brother and, following in her parents' footsteps, became a doctor herself.

At age nine, she began writing stories, though her attempts were not entirely complete. These early works, however, hinted at a promising future.

Freida attended a prestigious high school and overcame numerous challenges to succeed. She later enrolled at Harvard University, where she majored in mathematics.

Despite this, she never gave up on her dream of becoming a doctor. She eventually enrolled in medical school and specialized in brain injury medicine.

Working as a doctor alongside writing

During her medical studies, Freida McFadden wrote and submitted her work to various publishers, maintaining a balance between her medical studies and her writing without allowing one to interfere with the other. She continued experimenting until she was able to publish her own work after completing her medical training.

In 2013, she published her first truly significant work, *The Devil Wears Scrubs*, a story closely tied to her work as a doctor. The story was a resounding success and marked the true beginning of her literary career.

It was never easy for Freida. She had to balance her medical commitments with her writing career, which meant so much to her. Ultimately, however, she succeeded and published her stories under the pseudonym Frieda.

She had been hiding her identity to focus on her work as a doctor, which conflicted with her identity as a fiction writer and might have complicated her calculations. But as soon as her works began to appear and shine, she was forced to reveal her true identity and focus on the world of fiction writing.

Personal Life

Freida never told anyone the names of her children or her husband, as she preferred absolute privacy. However, she cared deeply for her family, and they lived in a large house in Boston overlooking the ocean, which gave her a sense of peace and contemplation while writing her stories.

Freida McFadden became increasingly immersed in writing, so she took on part-time work as a doctor to ensure she had ample time for it. Her relatively stable financial situation also helped support this.

Freida met her husband, an engineer, in high school, and a special love story blossomed between them, soon leading to marriage.

Freida still tries to keep her identity as hidden as possible. She declines many invitations to speak at seminars and other events, and sometimes even prefers to disguise herself to avoid revealing her identity. She also never promotes her stories like many other authors do.

Frieda McFadden's novels rely on psychological suspense, occasionally incorporate humor, and sometimes feature medical and scientific elements, creating a unique yet satisfying, highly engaging blend.

During her career, Frieda produced nearly thirty novels, including exceptional works such as *The Housemaid*, which was adapted into a film in 2025 and won several awards. Another notable novel, *The Devil Wears Scrubs*, also features significant medical details.
