Locked 2025 Movie Plot
Locked 2025 is a thriller starring Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins. It is based on psychological suspense, with compelling dialogue, outstanding acting, and top-quality directing and cinematography.
It revolves around Eddie (Bill Skarsgard), who is facing financial hardships and is rejected by everyone he asks for help. He sees no choice but to steal to solve his money problems. When an opportunity arises, he gets caught in an unusual trap set by his attacker, William (Anthony Hopkins). A unique conversation develops between them, exploring questions of right and wrong and addressing many social and psychological issues. Eddie wants to break free from William's grip, while William seeks to prove his point and exact revenge on the criminal in Eddie's likeness.
A good movie that addresses important issues worth discussing and highlighting. It also has some negatives, which we will detail.
Quick Start
Eddie broke into William's car, hoping to find something valuable to sell. Finding nothing, he tried to open the door, but was surprised to discover it was locked, along with all the other exits of the car. He checked every corner and found a small metal lever, but it also didn't work. The car was completely inaccessible, even with all means of communication cut off.
The car's computer was functioning, and an incoming call appeared on its screen. Eddie completely ignored it, even though his arm was injured and bleeding. His efforts to break free had overwhelmed him. As fear began to take hold, he decided to answer the call, only to discover it was William, the car's owner. It was a strange and unexpected situation. While Eddie was cursing and swearing at William, William was trying to talk to him, but Eddie's only concern was to get out of this damn car. However, William saw things differently.
Eddie tried again to use a violent approach by shooting at the car window, but the bullet ricocheted off and hit his leg, causing him to bleed once more. While injured, he yelled at William to save him, get him out of the car, or call the police. William ignored him, shocking him with electric currents through the seats because of the cursing and swearing that had never left his lips since he started this conversation. Suddenly, Eddie lost consciousness.
William was a doctor, so he bandaged Eddie's bleeding wounds while he was unconscious. When Eddie came to that night, he saw bandages on his arm and leg. He then tried to find water and food but found very little of either, until the next morning when William called.
The discussion between William and Eddie
The conversation between William and Eddie happened again, but this time it was more in-depth. William's reasons and motives for his actions were revealed, and Eddie tried to justify why he broke into William's car. Strangely, both of their logics were quite remarkable, but with William's exaggerated punishment for Eddie, it was no longer just about retribution against criminals like Eddie; it became a clear sign of a psychological disorder.
Although Eddie deserved the intimidation he received as punishment for robbing others, the severity of his crime wasn't very high. He hadn't forced anyone during the robbery, even though he had a weapon. He also held onto a last-ditch hope of avoiding theft, as shown by the lottery tickets he bought. He didn't finish scratching them because, deep down, he believed he was inherently unlucky. If he were a real criminal, he wouldn't have bought the lottery tickets in the first place.
The motives behind any act a person commits must be considered when imposing punishment. Habitual criminality can also be a key factor. Locked didn't provide conclusive evidence that Eddie was a habitual criminal, but it did show that William was guilty. His car had been broken into several times before Eddie's. They may have faced the same fate as Eddie's. The film left this point unclear, without a definitive answer. However, it strongly suggests William's danger and his criminal behavior toward those he tried to rob.
I was struck by how incredibly unlucky Eddie is. He seems to attract all kinds of misfortune, which is really sad in this world. Others might be responsible for this by refusing to help him or cooperate, as was the case with Eddie. Or he might be the reason why they doubt his ability to change things in his life.
William also faces immense misfortune. Despite his success and wealth, he lost his daughter to habitual criminals, was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and his car was burglarized multiple times. All of these hardships could drive any normal man to become a psychopath.
We also saw William talk about always making the right choices in life and being successful because of that. However, his decision to punish criminals himself in a way that made it seem like a recreational game—torturing criminals in such a cruel and inhumane manner—was not the right choice this time. Instead, it revealed a psychological disorder caused by the harsh events he experienced in his life.
The ending of the film was definitely uplifting, but it didn't feel fair to me. Eddie should have lost something, just as William lost his life. In my opinion, it would have felt more believable and appropriate for both of them to commit a crime against each other, regardless of the size, scope, or type of that crime.
Finally, the movie Locked is entertaining because of its excitement, though it’s a bit slow to develop its plot. It has some points worth exploring and contemplating. The acting and cinematography are very good, and the directing is just okay. The story is somewhat decent. The final result wasn’t satisfying for me, but it’s a film you can watch only once.
