Introduction to No One Will Save You
No One Will Save You is considered an unconventional horror movie because of several elements that make it feel strange, fun, and full of anticipation to an unusual degree. It’s great to watch a movie like this among a sea of stereotypical and traditional horror films, which have become lacking in fresh and unique ideas.
Time passed while I was watching, and I only heard a sentence or two, in addition to the wonderful song, of course, yet I never lost focus on the events. The movie simplifies the dialogue to just performance and exciting moments, leaving your mind to wonder what is happening, which is a really good idea. It doesn't rely much on dialogue but on the sound of your thoughts chasing after the truth. Your heart sympathizes with everything Brynn went through that made her feel so alone, but it doesn’t use that as an excuse—just because she survived aliens who came to occupy Earth doesn't mean her previous psychological trauma is overlooked.
But her survival was for another reason, which we will surely explore. In my opinion, the whole experience will leave a positive impression on everyone fighting to stay alive and will help shed the heavy psychological burdens weighing on their hearts.
Interesting facts and events
- We saw three types of aliens: the curious one who moves objects remotely and studies what he encounters, the short one who attacked her in the house, and the giant one who moves like a spider and attacks fiercely. They are clearly different units in the army, ranging from the exploration vanguard and soldiers to destructive war machines. Above them are the leaders who monitor everything and study their opponents' capabilities.
- Any invasion, regardless of the civilization or culture across the universe, has reasons and goals it aims to achieve, along with a way to reach those goals. There are resources on planet Earth, a suitable environment for life, or a host organism through which reproduction occurs. In this case, the method of invasion was through mind control to dominate bodies. The parasite or small entity that enters through the mouth was their means, merging with cells and carrying their genetic fingerprint to become a friend rather than an enemy. It then begins to take over the mind, imagining that external things are proceeding smoothly, and the only obstacle is a thought that completely controls the mind, like her constant reflection on her childhood friend and the guilt that always haunts her.
- These aliens are a non-combatant race and do not tend toward direct violence, meaning they do not seek to kill, destroy, or exterminate. Otherwise, they would have done so initially, and the village would have become a mass grave. They are a race that thinks and plans carefully, first assessing their opponent's capabilities to determine the best way to confront them without incurring additional costs or the trouble of direct combat.
- If you face an opponent who is mentally and physically weaker than you, and they succeed in breaking your control over them, your options are limited to two: stop and analyze them to assess their true ability, or ignore them altogether so you don't waste your time. In my humble opinion, this is what those beings did with Brynn: when they brought her to their ship, studied her life, and examined her memories, they decided not to use mental control over her. Instead, they had those who controlled them interact with her and give her back what she had lost during years of isolation. This way, they ensured she wouldn't cause problems for them in the future because she became part of a life she had longed for.
Scenes That Caught My Attention
The short, weak creature that attacked Brynn and the house was extremely fragile and lacked telekinetic abilities because it was an alien explorer. This physical weakness is not unique to it but extends to most of them, except for the giant spider, since they are a race that is intellectually and mentally advanced but not physically strong or skilled in fighting.
When she was on the bus and the person sitting in the back approached her and grabbed her as she left her seat, I wondered why it was specifically her and not someone else on the bus. I found the answer in the fact that she had confronted someone in her house, and his scent remained on her. This is what attracted the person controlling him to her, so he tried to ensure that when he approached her, she was under control like them. When she pushed him away, he immediately attacked her, as he instantly realized that she had come into contact with one of them and had rid herself of him. This is also due to a mental connection among all of them.
When the parasite entered her and began to control her, she suddenly woke up screaming hysterically on her bed, as if she were suffering from a nightmare and remembering its details. If that were true, some people would have managed to free themselves immediately because their memory would still be aware of what had happened. However, this only happened to her because her controlling idea was preventing the parasite from completely taking over. As a result, part of her mind was still aware, rejected the illusion being presented, and quickly caused her to get rid of the parasite.
After she fell from the flying saucer, two things shocked me: the lights flashing in the sky and the injury she sustained as she bled. The first can be interpreted in two ways: either they are cheering her for standing up to that moment in front of them, and this is how they show their admiration, or they are sending signals through the lights and accompanying sounds to the residents of her village to communicate and connect with her. The second issue regarding her injury also has two interpretations: either it was a minor injury that she recovered from quickly, or someone was ordered by the creatures to rescue her immediately. There is a strange third possibility I just thought of, which is that she died, and what she experienced in her final moments was what she wished to encounter with the residents of her village.
Which of the three interpretations do you believe is more likely, my dear?
Movie quality
The directing was very distinctive, and I was amazed at how accurately facial expressions were conveyed through Brynn's silence—highlighting her words on her face, showing her feelings to the viewer, and observing the reactions of the aliens to her and her memories.
The photography is beautiful, and the lighting stands out in more than one event. Despite their complexity, the scenario and story were narrated very well.
The sound effects here are quite distinctive, although they can sometimes be irritating to the ear, especially the aliens' sound.
Kaitlyn Dever played a role that showcased her acting skills, especially in two scenes where she confronts herself. I believe that if she took on more roles with complex psychological elements, she would continue to excel and improve.
In the end, it is a movie worth watching because it is not stereotypical, and it is worth studying its details. I would also love to hear the opinions of those who have watched it.
