A note about castaway

It is a film that contains a deep message of hope and offers a beautiful example of patience and enduranceeven though this hope seems out of reach.

Tom Hanks delivered a fantastic performance in this movie, making you, as a viewer, feel like you're fighting alongside him in every shot to stay alive and help him return to his homeland.

Number One

While relieving himself on the beach, he saw a flickering light in the water nearby and realized it was a ship. He shouted with all his might for them to see him, but the darkness blocked their view. He ran to get a small flashlight and tried to send an SOS signal, but they didn't see him either. Still, he didn't lose hope. He got into a lifeboat and rowed quickly to catch up, but the waves hit him hard and pushed him back forcefully.

Despite this, he was very persistent until a violent wave capsized his boat, injuring his leg. He returned to the beach exhausted, showing signs of despair on his face. It was a scene filled with terrible frustration, as he realized he couldn't leave the island due to the fierce waves, which made anyone wish for death. Still, he forced himself to enter a nearby cave and lie down on the ground, very tired, until he fell asleep from the exhaustion of everything he had endured.

The power of this scene comes from two contradictions: the insistence on saving himself and the frustration that followed his failure. Nature was definitely stronger than him, and he had to overcome it with his mind, not his strength. This eventually led him to use his intelligence and available resources to escape this terrible crisis.

Number two

When he talked inside the cave with his friend, the ball, and his friend was blaming him for his crazy idea of suicide from a year ago, and that the rope he almost hanged himself with had helped him today in building a small boat to leave the island, Chuck's (Tom Hanks) reaction was that he knew he was right. Then he imagined his friend, the ball, telling him that he didn't believe the idea of leaving this island would work, so Chuck told him that he would rather venture into the heart of the ocean than spend the rest of his life talking to a ball.

He then kicked him out of the cave but quickly yelled at his friend, the ball, and ran out of the cave like a madman—hysterical and searching for him while he was collapsing. Eventually, he found him, carried him, hugged him, and apologized for his behavior. Crying with real remorse, he returned with him to the cave and drew his friend the ball's face again from his blood. Then he teased him and asked if he had forgiven him, and a smile appeared on Chuck's face afterward.

In my humble opinion, it's one of the greatest movie scenes in history because it reveals the ugliness of loneliness versus creating a friend from an exhausted mind and living with him as if he's real, even shaping him into a ball—nothing more. Even if it's a path of madness, everyone will see it that way.

But I saw that with that friend, he really avoided reaching the point of madness, and he also backed away from the idea of killing himself that he had, and his friend, the ball he called Wilson, prevented him from doing so.

When he threw his friend the ball Wilson out of the cave, he knew at the time that he would soon leave the island, so he rebelled for a moment against this illusion of a friend, but he quickly realized that he needed him at that time, as he might fail to leave the island, which would make him alone again, if he lost his friend the ball Wilson.

It was truly a very creative scene, and you might be confused about how to react—whether to laugh at his behavior, feel sad about the illusion of friendship, or be surprised by the strong connection between his feelings and the ball.

It is a unique and imaginative scene in every aspect, brilliantly performed by Tom Hanks.

Number three

The scene between Chuck and Kelly is commendable, but for the writer who crafted the dialogue, it remains quite confusing. How could their meeting happen after all these years, considering her marriage to another man and her having a child with him? Chuck definitely needed an explanation. How did she give up the love that once brought them together, even after losing all hope of his return or even his being alive?

Some people live on the memory of those they loved regardless of the pressures, while others quickly give up on that. There is also a group that suffers over time and then chooses the easiest solution with difficulty so they can live in peace.

The question was heavy on his mind, but each time he let his feelings take over, he tried not to make their meeting complicated or filled with sadness, enough pain from the years they lost during their time apart.

The meeting started with a hug from Kelly that Chuck hadn't expected, and there was surprise in his eyes. But he quickly dismissed the surprise, feeling warmth and love inside him. When she sensed his emotions overflowing, she slowly pulled away. Then he entered the house's hall, and they began talking about ordinary things. He was about to ask how she gave up on his love like that, but he changed his question at the last moment. She sighed in relief because she had expected this and was afraid of a tough moment for both of them.

They were talking about everyday life matters, but in the middle of this, she remembered what he liked to drink, and he remembered that she had planned to be a teacher, but she had abandoned her dream when his plane crashed. She told him she would try again, as if saying that his return had revived her dream.

Chuck took out the watch she had given him on the day he passed away. He wanted to return it to her because it was a family heirloom and should stay in her family. He was surprised to see newspaper clippings and maps on the desk. She told him that was all she had at the time to know where he was. But he told her, looking at it fondly, that he had no choice but to get on that plane. She held his hand and said she would show him something. She led him to the garage of her house to show him his car, which she had kept since he passed away. He was surprised by that and asked her if he could drive it. She told him that it was his.

Their eyes were filled with love despite everything, as if they were making up for their deprivation of the past years and what’s to come. Chuck prepared to leave, got into his car, and she asked what he was going to do. He told her he didn't really know. She then took the initiative with a loving kiss and a final farewell. Just as he was about to leave, she screamed his name, ran to the car, and panted.

Chuck approached her, and they embraced tightly while sharing a kiss. She responded to his unspoken question, saying she knew he was alive and felt it deeply. But everyone told her not to say it and to forget him. She then told him that he was the love of her life, and he said the same but added that he loved her more than she realized. They got into the car, exchanged loving looks, and carried sadness with them.

Kelly tried to say something, but before she could speak, he told her to go back home, as if she remembered her family at that moment. She nodded in agreement, silently looking at him with remorse.

The scene that was painful to the heart and fitting for the mind ended, and a new scene began where he was talking to his friend about his description of what happened between them, as if it was an extension of the painful and very touching scene.

This scene is a true masterpiece by Tom Hanks, as his sadness overwhelms his words. He describes to his friend that he was thinking about hanging himself out of despair, but he couldn't go through with it because holding onto life was stronger than losing hope. When the tide gave him a sail to overcome the waves, he was able to return and realize that he had lost Kelly forever. This made him very sad, but he refused to give up or die because who knows what the tide will bring him tomorrow?

A creative scene and profound words that always motivate us to keep going in life, even when hope is gone or faint. Fate favors those who fight to continue living and ignores those who give up early.

Comment on the movie.

  • This movie is seen as a summary of life's journey. It's wonderful to have a good life, a home, a job, and a lover, but life always has its ups and downs. When you find yourself losing all of that, it can be very tormenting and frustrating. The hardest part is not seeing a way to get it back. So, don't let that defeat you or destroy you. It's just a round; the battle isn't over yet. You will definitely win if you don't surrender. Just keep fighting until the last moment, even if you come out defeated. If you fought with determination, courage, and honor, that's enough to consider you victorious.

  • Love is the most powerful motivating feeling in life, so use it wisely in your actions and try to recognize the amount of positive energy it infuses into your veins, moving you with it. It is a genuine and wonderful investment in life's journey.
